College Fellow - Prof. WONG Suk Ying
College Fellow
Professor WONG Suk-Ying (王淑英) is the Warden and a Fellow of CW Chu College. She received her undergraduate training at the University of Liverpool and obtained her PhD from Stanford University. She began her teaching career as a visiting lecturer at Beijing Normal University and Nankai University in China when she was a doctoral candidate at Stanford University. Then, she taught in several higher-education institutions in the United States and Japan before joining The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997. Currently, Professor Wong is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. Professor Wong was a recipient of the US National Academy of Education Spencer Fellowship Award and the Distinguished Research Fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Her primary interests involve the sociology of education, comparative-historical sociology and organizations, and much of her research and writing are related to the role of education in the construction of modern nationalism and identity formation. Her teaching includes courses on the sociology of education, classical theory, sociology and modern society, Chinese society and Japan in a global perspective. She was also the recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award (2005), The Chinese University of Hong Kong. More information can be found on the departmental webpage. |
College Fellow - Prof. HSU Vernon
College Fellow
Professor Vernon Hsu (徐寧) is a Fellow of CW Chu College. He received his Bachelor degree in Mathematics from Fujian Normal University in China at the age of 20. In the late 80s, he continued his graduate study in the US and obtained two master’s degrees in Computer Sciences and Economics, respectively, and later a PhD in Business Administration, all from The University of Iowa. Professor Hsu had taught at George Mason University in U. S. for 15 years before joining CUHK in 2009 as a Professor of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics. He is currently the Associate Dean for Research in CUHK’s Faculty of Business Administration. He had also held faculty positions at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The University of New South Wales in Australia. In his nearly two decades of higher education teaching career, Professor Hsu had developed and taught various undergraduate courses in business administration. Through these courses, he taught students how to design and improve business processes to achieve higher efficiency using scientific management skills and modern technologies. College Associate Master, Dean of Students and Fellow - Prof. AU Thomas
College Associate Master, Dean of Students and Fellow
Thomas AU (區國強) is the Associate Master, Dean of Students and a Fellow of CW Chu College. He obtained his BSc from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and then a PhD from the University of California, San Diego. During his undergraduate years, he had the opportunity of enjoying the fraternity of student life in the hostel of New Asia College. Au has been a teacher at the Department of Mathematics of CUHK since 1990. He has been actively working on departmental curriculum matters and organizing undergraduate exchanges, research, internships and other student academic activities. He has twice received the Exemplary Teaching Award of the Science Faculty. Until the establishment of CW Chu College, he was affiliated with Shaw College. Au has also been engaged in serving the education sector of Hong Kong and China. He has served in various committees of the Education Department, the Quality Education Fund, and The Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence. He has contributed particularly to gifted mathematics education by serving as Executive Chair of Hang Lung Mathematics Awards and as a member of National Committee of New World Mathematics Awards. College Honorary Fellow - Prof. CHUN Ka Wai Cecilia
College Honorary Fellow Professor CHUN Ka Wai Cecilia
Cecilia Ka Wai CHUN (秦家慧) is an Honorary Fellow of CW Chu College. She is currently Director of Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR). She obtained her BA and Diploma in Education from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and her Advanced Diploma in Education, Master of Education and PhD from the University of Hong Kong. She has been working in the field of education since her graduation. First she started as a school teacher of English and then worked as a teacher educator. She joined the Faculty of Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1994, and retired in 2015. At CUHK, she was the co-ordinator of a double-degree programme in English language education and she also co-ordinated overseas language programmes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Education. She has been a recipient of the Exemplary Teaching Award of the Faculty of Education three times. She has been involved in a number of Education Bureau committees, for example, Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ), committees and working groups under the Chief Executive Award for Teaching Excellence (CEATE) and CDI. College Fellow - Prof. ZHOU Xunyu
College Fellow
Xunyu ZHOU (周迅宇) is a Fellow of CW Chu College. He obtained his BS and PhD from Fudan University. He joined CUHK in 1993, and currently holds a Chair Professorship of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. Until the establishment of CW Chu College, he was affiliated with United College. Zhou’s primary research areas are quantitative finance and risk management, and he has been recently engaged in the study of behavioural finance. He is an invited speaker at the 2010 International Congress of Mathematicians, a Fellow of IEEE, a winner of the SIAM Outstanding Paper Prize, and a recipient of the Croucher Senior Research Fellowship. Zhou worked in Kobe University and the University of Toronto before joining CUHK, and in the University of Oxford as the Nomura Chair of Mathematical Finance and Professorial Fellow at St Hugh’s College 2007-2010.
