Eugene PONOMAREV (龐佑信) is currently appointed to the School of Biomedical Sciences and is affiliated to CW Chu College. He obtained his BS (Natural Sciences), and MS (Molecular Biology) degrees from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and PhD degree (Immunology) from Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences. Before his relocation to Hong Kong, Eugene Ponomarev spent 12 years (2001–2012) in the USA working as a scientist in top academic institutions such as Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston) where he held the position of Assistant Professor. The research program of Dr. Ponomarev is supported by highly competitive research grants form National Institute of Health (USA) and RGC (Hong Kong). Dr. Ponomarev’s research interest is related to the immunological aspects of inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS) associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Ponomarev is well known in field of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration and he is an author of more than 25 publications in top academic journals such as Nature Medicine, Journal of Immunology and Journal of Neuroscience. Eugene is a member of the American Society of Immunologists, Hong Kong Pharmacology and Hong Kong Flow Cytometry societies. Dr. Ponomarev serves in the editorial boards of number of international academic journals such as Journal of Immunology, Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Clinical Immunology, Annals of Neurology etc. More information can be found on the departmental webpage.
