Dr. TONG Fuk Kay Franklin 湯復基
Dr Frank Fuk-Kay TONG was educated at the University of California and obtained his doctorate from Columbia University, with thesis work carried out at MIT Lincoln Lab. He worked for a decade in IBM Research (Almaden and Yorktown Heights) on optoelectronic
and systems. He joined CUHK in 1996 and became a professor in Information Engineering Department. In 2000, he was seconded as VP of Photonic System Technology to the HK Applied Science and Technology Institute (ASTRI).
In 2004, his R&D group was acquired by TDK/SAE where he joined SAE Magnetics as VP of Optical Component Unit. There he led the group in building the business based on latest optical products developed for datacom
and consumer electronics market. In 2013, he joined Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technologies Co., Ltd. as Vice President and CTO. In addition to being a Mentor for CW Chu College, he serves on a panel for the Small
Entrepreneur Research Assistance Program of the HK Government and the Administration Committee of the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme; he has also served on the Board of ASTRI. He maintains his
link with academia as an adjunct professor at CUHK and on an Industry Advisory Board for HKUST. |
