Cultural Exploration and Internship Programme in Shanghai
A total of 20 Chung Chi students joined the 3rd Cultural Exploration and Internship Programme in Shanghai co-organized by the College Mentor Programme Committee and CUHK Alumni Association in Shanghai from 11 June to 1 July. The first week of the Programme featured a series of visits to various business corporations in Shanghai, alumni talk, as well as interchange with local university undergraduates to learn about the latest development of Shanghai. In the following two weeks, participants were attached to nine different companies of various industries, ranging from hotel, finance and investment, public relations, IT to wholesaling, etc. for internship through which they gained a better understanding of the business practice and culture of the mainland. |

Cultural Exploration and Service Trip to Cambodia
|
A group of 15 Chung Chi students went to Cambodia from 25 May to 1 June for a cultural exploration and service trip organized by the Chaplain’s Office. Besides visiting the Crime Museum of Khmer Rouge in Phnom Penh and the Angor Wat in Siem Reap, students also provided services at the orphanages, schools, slums, churches, and the -floating community on Tonle Sap Lake. |
Language Study Abroad Programme
This summer, 61 students were sponsored to participate in intensive English courses from four to ten weeks organized by the University of Washington, USA, the University of Waterloo, Canada and the University of Victoria, Canada. Outward Bound Training Programme
|
A total of 12 Chung Chi students joined the Outward Bound Training Programme in May this year. They attended a seven-day training course at the training base of the Outward Bound Hong Kong located at Tai Mong Tsai, Sai Kung. Via various well-designed land and sea challenges, students gained the opportunity to enhance personal growth and creativity, and to nurture different skills including problem-solving, inter-personal communication and leadership. At the end of the programme, each participant was awarded a certificate of achievement by the Outward Bound Hong Kong. |
Root-seeking Trip to Wuhan and Guangzhou
The Root-seeking Trip to Wuhan and Guangzhou jointly organized by the Chaplain’s Office of the College and the Chinese Christian Universities Alumni Association (CCUAA) was held from 6 to 11 June this year. Co-led by the then Chaplain Rev. Daniel Hui (1983 / Theology) and Mr. Pak Yiu Charn Patrick (1975 / History), the study tour was joined by 34 students of the College, staff, teachers and alumni of the University, members of CCUAA, and members from the congregation of Chung Chi College Chapel. Apart from Central China Normal University, Wuhan University and Sun Yat-Sen University, the tour also brought participants to visit various historical and cultural sites in Wuhan and Guangzhou. While the College was founded with the heritage of 13 former Chinese church universities in mainland China, the study tour has allowed the participants to gain a better understanding of the history of Chung Chi and also enhanced their sense of belonging to the College. |

Service-Learning Programme (International)

The College organized the Service-Learning Programme (International) this summer in collaboration with Petra Christian University of Indonesia, Christ University of India and Happy Tree Social Service of Hong Kong. A total of 8 Chung Chi students were sent to Indonesia, India and Cambodia respectively to join the service-learning projects co-ordinated by the partner institutions. Chung Chi students going abroad were given the opportunity to apply their knowledge to serve the local communities. Through interacting with other international students, participants further developed both their communication skills and global perspective. |
Service-Learning Programme (Local)
The Service-Learning Programme (Local) was held from early June to late August. A total of 28 Chung Chi students from various departments, divided into seven teams, planned and served different groups for approximately eight weeks to three months. Service targets included children with special needs; rehabilitated substance abusers and their families; outreaching youths; adult rehabilitation service, ethnic minorities, students with intellectual disability and the elderly. Through the service experience, participants deepened their understanding towards the socially disadvantaged groups and gained insights into various social issues. Designed to be part of the College General Education course GECC4230 Service-Learning Programme, students will give group presentations and hand in written reports on their service and learning in formal classes. |

Service-Learning Programme (Mainland)

This year, a total of 20 Chung Chi students from various departments engaged in the Service-Learning Programme (Mainland) led by Dr. Li Chun Hong, lecturer of the University General Education. The team went to Yunnan during 23 June to 14 July to conduct a three-week programme focusing on early childhood education (ECE) service with the theme of “Play-based Learning”. In this programme, Chung Chi students deepened their understanding of the people and culture in Mainland. In addition, they got an invaluable chance to gain insights into various social issues. Designed to be part of the College General Education course GECC4230 Service-Learning Programme, students will give group presentations and hand in written reports on their service and learning in formal classes. |
Student Leadership Exchange Camp
The Student Leadership Exchange Camp 2017, organized by the Federation of Chinese University and College Chaplaincies, was held at the Providence University at Taichung, Taiwan from 3 to 7 July 2017. Through seminars, group discussions, and excursions, about 60 participants from 7 universities of Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Chung Chi College, explored the theme “Go Into the Crowd”. |

Study Trip: Exploration of French Society
|
A total of 20 students joined the study trip to France, beginning on 11 June 2017. The group was led by Mr. Raphaël Chiarelli of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages. Participants studied French in Bordeaux, the cradle of wine, and joined a number of horizon widening cultural activities there. In Paris, they visited various arts museums and monuments to get a better understanding of the French culture. Homestay was arranged, through which student participants got a closer interaction with local people. |
Study Trip: Exploration of German Society
The study trip to German, which started on 11 June 2017, was led by Ms. Annette Fromel of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages. The 21 participants were arranged to live with homestay families, through which they got a closer interaction with local people. Apart from the German language courses in Mannheim, there was also a whole week of historical and cultural visits in Berlin. |

Study Trip: Exploration of Japanese Society
|
A total of seven students went to Tokyo, Japan for three weeks this summer to take part in the Global Campus Asia Tokyo 2017 of Gakushuin University. Five of them attended the elementary Japanese class starting from 12 June and two of them attended the advanced class starting from 19 July. They also joined a series of cultural activities to gain a better understanding of the Japanese society and culture. |
Student Visitor Programme with Lanzhou University
The eighth bilateral Student Visitor Programme between Chung Chi College and Lanzhou University took place this summer. Held from 19 to 28 July in Gansu and Qinghai and from 1 to 10 August in Hong Kong, the Programme was attended by a total of 29 student delegates. The theme of study was “Silk Road and Cultural Integration: Socio-cultural Study of Gansu, Qinghai and Hong Kong”, under which a series of lectures and visits to religious and cultural sites were arranged. Dr. Yung Chor Wing Linda from the Department of Economics served as the Academic Advisor of the Programme. |

Student Visitor Programme with Zhejiang University

Chung Chi held the thirteenth Student Visitor Programme with Zhejiang University this year. Under the theme of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, the Programme was attended by 20 undergraduates of Chung Chi College and Zhejiang University. The Hangzhou section took place from 19 to 26 July and the Hong Kong section was carried out from 5 to 12 August. Through a series of lectures, workshops and theme-related visits, delegates gained insights into various aspects of the theme of study. Professor Gong Xiting, Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, served as the Academic Advisor of the Programme. |
A total of 64 Chung Chi students joined the Summer Study Abroad Programme 2017. They attended summer schools for two to eight weeks between late May to late August at 13 renowned universities in USA, UK, Canada, Switzerland, Korea and Mainland China, namely, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Los Angeles, Harvard University, Yale University, the University of Cambridge, the University of London (London School of Economics and Political Science and King’s College London), Imperial College London, the University of British Columbia, McGill University, Université de Genève, Sung Kyun Kwan University and Peking University. Students gained intellectual knowledge through various courses and got a taste of the foreign academic atmosphere at these world-class universities. They also experienced the foreign culture and met new friends from different countries. Chung Chi and CUHK alumni at Berkeley have again organized different gathering activities for students participating in the summer sessions at UC Berkeley. |
