The tragedy of recent child abuse cases in Hong Kong has given rise to grave concerns within the society. In response to the issue, the Department of Educational Psychology organized the Guarding Our Children Forum with the address from four distinguished guest speakers who have made significant contributions to serve the neglected and abused children for years, and the attendance of over 160 educators, social workers and professionals from various organizations for professional sharing.

The individual speakers' messages brought forth a deeper understanding of child abuse from multiple perspectives. They subtly called upon the audience an awakening of everyone's responsibility to protect the children. It takes the involvement and commitment of the whole society to implement effective intervention and preventive measures for the best interests of children. The children's future is set upon substantial changes in the culture of parenting, positive education for children, and extensive collaborations among all stakeholders---the governmental and non-governmental organizations, schools and communities.

The forum concluded with participants' genuine reflections on the three questions that we have posted on guarding our children:

"What do we need to know?"
"What should we do?"
"What can we hope for?"

香港近月發生多宗虐兒悲劇，引起社會極大迴響。為回應各界關注，中大教育學院教育心理學系早前舉辦「守護兒童」論壇，邀請了四名傑出的嘉賓作主題演講。是次論壇吸引逾一百六十位來自教育、社會工作等不同界別的專業人士出席，共同探討這個議題。

四名嘉賓講者多年來為兒童的福祉作出重大貢獻，他們從多個角度提供對虐兒問題更深入的瞭解，並巧妙地散發了「保護兒童，人人有責」的訊息。他們認為，從兒童的最大權益出發，要有效介入問題及落實執行預防措施，實有賴整體社會的參與和承擔；兒童的未來，將取決三大範疇的重要轉變：教養子女的文化、對兒童的正向教育，以及各界持份者能否全面通力合作，包括政府及非政府機構、學校和社區。

在交流的時段，一眾參與者對本論壇在守護兒童方面提出的三道問題作出真誠的反思:
「我們需要認識甚麼？」
「我們應該做些什麼？」
「我們可以有何盼望？」
