Scholarships/Awards
The University offers a number of scholarships, prizes and academic awards to give due recognition to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding performance in other areas, such as creativity, community services and leadership. Admission Scholarships are also offered to outstanding local and non-local undergraduate entrants. The University also provides bursaries and loans to help eligible students with financial need. Some scholarships are particularly offered for Faculty of Education students, namely the Faculty of Education Admission Scholarships, Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers, Grand Way Scholarships and Outstanding Teaching Practice Awards.
Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers
The Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers is set up by the Education Bureau (EDB) as one of a series of measures to enhance the professionalism of English language teachers in Hong Kong. The Scholarship is open to first year students of relevant degree programmes and is tenable for the normal duration of the study programme. Please visit EDB for details of the Scholarship.
Grand Way Scholarships
The Grand Way Scholarships are awarded to outstanding first year students based on their academic achievements in public examinations for admission to CUHK.
Outstanding Teaching Practice Awards
The Outstanding Teaching Practice Awards are awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have outstanding teaching performance and attitude during their teaching practice at schools.

Ken Fung (Admitted in 2014)
The first scholarship that I’m privileged to be awarded is the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers. It has helped fortify my faith in teaching. Its money means more than just mere financial support, but huge recognition of my dream to become a teacher. Another one goes to the Kunkle and Pommerenke Scholarship, which was an unanticipated full tuition. It has, I believe, proved one thing: your hard work will reward you someday.
What has also surprised me is the fact that CUHK has evidence to be the most generous university ever. If financially challenged, you will be assured that she has her ways to lend you a helping hand. I testify about that when I am qualified as Fung Scholars whose scholarship aids exchange students in many aspects. Such security and assurance I have drawn from CUHK render me no excuses for not being hard-working.
Tom Cheng (Admitted in 2013)
I am grateful to have received financial support through scholarships nominated by the Faculty of Education. In year two I was fortunately selected for a competitively sought scholarship offered by The Au Bak Ling Charity Trust, which awards specifically teachers-in-training. I have also received scholarships awarded based on academic achievements, financial needs, and participation in activities and services, like Mrs. Julia Leung Memorial Scholarship, Kai Chong Tong Scholarship, and Hong Kong Asia Lions Club Scholarship. The scholarships have supported me in my UK immersion experience, which truly enriched my degree; they also enable me to consider the possibility of further study after graduation.
Ross Ng (Admitted in 2013)
Having been selected as one of the recipients of Au Bak Ling Charity Trust Scholarship in my second year of undergraduate studies, I would like to express my gratitude for the recommendation of the ELED programme as well as the generosity and support of Au Bak Ling Charity Trust. The entirety of the scholarship sponsored my one-week school experience in Beijing, where English is taught as a foreign language as in Hong Kong. The experience was frightfully fruitful, meaningful, and valuable in that not only did I better understand the classroom dynamics in Beijing, I also acquired more comprehensive information on the English language curriculum as well as language policies in the Mainland. The school experience in Beijing thereby expanded my world vision and is construed as substantially profitable to my future teaching career.
Anthony Mark (Admitted in 2012)
I am truly thankful to have received several awards and scholarships during my undergraduate studies. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers who inspired and nurtured me along the way. Without their guidance, I would not have flourished. Honestly, never have I expected any awards; I simply kept reminding myself that I should always do my best with a humble attitude, no matter how trivial something seems to be. I profoundly believe that results are not the most important, but the effort you put. It was encouraging and delightful to have received prizes that recognized my effort; on top of that, it also reinforced my teaching philosophy that students’ effort should never be neglected.

I am thankful for the generous support of the HKSAR Government Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers and Au Bak Ling Charity Trust Scholarship, both competitively awarded to aspiring teachers with clear career goals. The Scholarships mean that I worried less about my finance, and I even invested in my career by participating in more activities. I also met other scholarship recipients, and we exchanged our views on educating for the future. The Scholarships have enriched my university life, invested in my future, and reinforced my sense of purpose in language and education.
