The Education Bureau of Hong Kong SAR (EDB) has announced that starting from the 2022/23 school year, newly-appointed teachers in all public sector schools are required to pass the BLT in order to be considered for appointment. The arrangement details of the BLT could be found on EDB website https://www.edb.gov.hk/en/sch-admin/admin/about-sch-staff/basiclawtest/index.html Some key points are extracted and highlighted below:                                                                                                                 

“ The EDB will conduct two rounds of BLT in January and February 2022 respectively for  teachers on a pilot basis. The relevant test results are only applicable to the newly-appointed teachers in the 2022/23 school year. The content and format of the BLT organised by the EDB would draw reference to the arrangements of the BLT conducted by the CSB.  Candidates have to answer 15 multiple-choice questions within 20 minutes.  Those who get at least 8 out of 15 questions correct (i.e. attaining a score at or above 53 out of the full mark of 100) will be deemed to have a pass result. 

 

The first round of test is scheduled to be held on 8 January 2022.  The test will be open for applications from 9:00 a.m. on 15 November 2021 to 5:00 p.m. on 26 November 2021.  Applicants are required to apply through the EDB on-line application system.  Places for the test are limited.  Applicants will be arranged to sit for the test on a first-come-first-served basis.  Relevant details and the link to the on-line application system will be announced on this website on 15 November 2021.  The date of the second round BLT will be announced in due course.”

 

With this consideration, we strongly encourage students who are going to graduate in this academic year apply the BLT accordingly.
