- For full-time doctoral students in Chinese Literature, History, Geography or a related subject.
- Students may reasonably be expected to complete their theses by the end of the academic year 2022/23.
- Students are required to provide a statement on the details of research which should be related to Chinese culture in general, and on the progress of the thesis detailing a research plan that will lead to completion of the thesis by the end of the academic year 2022/23.
- Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in academic activities of the Institute of Chinese Studies such as talks and seminars, and are required to submit a copy of the thesis after its completion to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid for onward transmission to the donor for record.
- For a full-time postgraduate student from the Mainland who will return to the Mainland after graduation.

- Higher priority will be given to those candidates who have registered with the Graduate School.
- Cannot be held concurrently with other scholarships or financial support from the University, excluding postgraduate studentship.
- For a full-time postgraduate student of the Faculty of Education.
- Based on academic merit.
- have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
- have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years as at 1 September 2021;
- be registered full-time postgraduate research students undertaking UGC-funded courses in 2021/22;
- be registered for a master degree on or after 1 July 2020 or a doctorate degree on or after 1 July 2019; and
- not be engaged in full-time employment.
- For full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in UGC-funded programmes.
- Year 1 undergraduate students must have good academic results during secondary education and in public examination; whereas Year 2 or above students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above up to the summer session of previous academic year. Year 1 postgraduate students must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance.
- Students should be able to demonstrate achievements in any of the following areas in recent three years (i.e. 1 January 2018 or after). If any student has outstanding achievements on several areas, he/she should be recommended for the Scholarship based only on the most deserving area as required by the Education Bureau (EDB).
- sports and games
- music and performing arts
- culture, arts and design
- innovation, science and technology
- Students should have received awards in national or regional competitions / performances; or represented institution or relevant association in such competitions / performances and have good recommendation / assessment by the institution or relevant organization on the capability or talent; OR have received awards (except commendable award in recognition of participation) in local / inter-school / inter-institution competitions.
- Students who ONLY participate in any of the following activities should NOT be awarded Talent Development Scholarship (TDS):
- being a team member / committee member of school/university team / club / society
- intra-school / intra-institution activities (CUHK intercollegiate activities are also not eligible.)
- work-related activities (e.g. internship / helpers or workers of an event, etc.)
- examinations on musical instruments
- language proficiency test (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)
- For a full-time student in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programme.

- Preference will be given to students who have a proven record of active participation in extra-curricular activities and have contributed to the university community, and with demonstrable financial need.
- Students should not receive other scholarships of which the total amount is more than half of the annual tuition fee in the year of award (currently at HK$72,500).
- Students will not be considered for the Scholarships if they have been awarded the same Scholarship before.
- Students must be permanent residents of Hong Kong;
- Students must have resided in Hong Kong continuously for at least three complete years immediately prior to the commencement of their undergraduate programme;
- Students must have received their senior secondary education in Hong Kong, including those who have studied local (e.g. Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) and non-local (e.g. International Baccalaureate) curricula;
- Students must be local full-time Year 1 undergraduate students in 2021/22, pursuing their first undergraduate degree immediately succeeding completion of their senior secondary school education;
- Students must demonstrate excellent academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent in Term 1 of 2021/22; and
- Students must demonstrate a track record of community service or charitable work undertaken prior to their scholarship application.
- be full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students of any disciplines. The awardees must be a full-time undergraduate student during the tenure of the award (i.e. for the whole academic year of award). Students who will graduate after Term 1 studies are NOT eligible.
- have works with outstanding creativity in the fields of Humanities or Natural Science
- be able to demonstrate that the creativity of his/her works is purposeful and that it is completely original
- be able to demonstrate that the creativity of his/her works is innovative and has outstanding achievement
- submit a personal statement in English of not more than 500 words which elaborates the achievement and creativity
- For full-time new undergraduate students who are admitted to CUHK in 2021/22, irrespective of the admission channel.
- Students must have excellence academic achievements at entrance.
- Students must have attained a GPA of at least 3.5 in the first term of 2021/22.
- This Scholarship will be exempted from the cap on annual total amount of scholarships received by students.
- The recipients are allowed to hold other admission scholarships concurrently.
- Selection will be based on both academic and non-academic achievements, including their entrance results, first-term academic results, language proficiency, track record of distinguished leadership, commitment to service, awards attained, etc.
- When candidates are of equal standard, their familial financial condition will also be considered.

- A realistic and an ambitious plan for a long-term career in GBA.
- An in-depth understanding of skills and knowledge required to achieve the career plan.
- Candidates with a focus on strategic sectors (e.g. digital, innovation and technology, logistics, green energy) will be given an advantage.

- For full-time undergraduate students.
- Students must be Hong Kong permanent residents.
- Students must attain a minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.7 or top 3% of class in the first term of the academic year 2021/22.
- Students must be in disciplines under architecture, business and economics, communication, computer science / information systems, education, engineering, health care, hotel and tourism, law, medicine, science (applied and basic), social sciences, humanities, arts subjects (linguistics and languages, translation, history, geography, fine arts and applied arts) energy and environment and Asian and International Studies and creative media.
- Preference will be given to non-final-year undergraduate students.
- Preference will also be given to students with disadvantaged background.
- Being a Hong Kong Permanent Resident with the right of abode in Hong Kong;
- Undertaking a full-time science-related bachelor’s degree, which is laid down by the University Grants Committee (UGC) – including (i) Sciences, (ii) Engineering & Technology, and (iii) Medicine & Health professions, but currently not in the final year;
- Preferably having a cumulative GPA of 3.3 (or equivalent) or above;
- Having achieved a satisfactory result from any one of the English tests below:
- A minimum overall TOEFL# score of 90 (Internet-based test) with scores for individual sections not lower than 21 on reading, 22 on listening, 21 on speaking, and 17 on writing;
- A minimum IELTS# overall band score of 6.5 (Academic Module), with no component below 6.0;
- HKDSE English Language Exam Level 4 or above;
- International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Exam English A Language and Literature Standard Level or High Level Grade 5 or above;
- International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Exam English B Standard Level Grade 6 or above; or English B High Level Grade 5 or above;

- Based on first-year academic merit and financial situation of the nominees' family.
- Where assessment results being equal, priority will be given to students whose place of origin is Panyu.
- Awardees may hold other awards concurrently provided that the total amount received does not exceed the University's maximum amount of scholarship a student is allowed to receive in a particular academic year (i.e. annual tuition fee plus a study and living allowance of HK$80,000).

- For Year 1 students, they must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance; or for Year 2 or above students, they must have attained a Year GPA of 3.0 or above in the previous academic year.

- For Year 1 students, they must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance; or for Year 2 or above students, they must have attained a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above up to the previous academic year.
- Students should have financial need, e.g. receiving Government grant and/or loan, University bursaries and/or loan in the current and/or previous academic year.
- Priority will be given to those students with qualities for / interest in Chinese culture and arts, e.g. Chinese opera, Chinese music and Chinese dance, etc.
- For full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students.
- Students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above up to the academic year 2020/21.
- Students must have financial need.
- Students must have experience in promoting cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Mainland China (or the home country of the applicant) and in joining cultural integration activities.
- Students must not have received this Scholarship before.
- For full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students.
- Students must have attained a Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above up to the previous academic year.
- Students must have demonstrable financial need.
- Priority will be given to students with genuine financial need but do not receive Government grant and/or loan due to special reason(s).
- For full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in UGC-funded programmes.
- Year 1 undergraduate students must have good academic results during secondary education and in public examination; whereas Year 2 or above students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above up to the summer session of previous academic year. Year 1 postgraduate students must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance.

- Students have to submit a brief statement, in a maximum of 300 words, to elaborate on their interest in developing their future path at the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and how they can contribute to GBA.

- For local full-time first-year or second-year students who are studying their first undergraduate degree in 2021/22 and meet ALL the following criteria:
- Students must be permanent residents of HKSAR.
- Students must have a high standard of academic performance:
- For first-year applicants, they must demonstrate academic excellence in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) or another recognised entry qualification. If selected, the scholarship will be offered on the condition that the student has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first term or is ranked among top 10% in class. For second-year applicants, they must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the time of application or be ranked among top 10% in class.
- Applicants with outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities but with a lower GPA of 3.30 or above or a lower class rank (among top 15%) may be considered. Evidence of these qualities, which are subject to examination by the JC Talent Development Secretariat, may include but not limited to awards, prizes, or other forms of recognition / credentials for demonstrating leadership in projects that benefit the community or other outstanding achievements. Recommendation letter is required for these applicants.
- Students must be proficient in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua) and English.
- Considering the additional challenges that may be faced by local SEN students, special accommodation may be made in the assessment process including the application of a corresponding set of academic performance requirements:
- Scholarship may be offered to first-year applicants on the condition that the student will achieve 70% of the maximum GPA achievable under the study programme (i.e. the minimum GPA required is 2.80 out of 4.0).
- Second-year applicants must have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.80 out of 4.0.
- Applicants of ‘Scholarship for Students with Special Educational Needs’ must provide proofs for their special educational needs.

- For full-time first-year or second-year Mainland students who are studying their first undergraduate degree programme in 2021/22 and meet ALL the following criteria:
- Students must be citizens of the People’s Republic of China.
- Students must have a high standard of academic performance:
- For first-year applicants, they must demonstrate academic excellence in Joint Entrance Examination (Gaokao) or another recognised entry qualification. If selected, the scholarship will be offered on the condition that the student has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first term or is ranked among top 10% in class. For second-year applicants, they must have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the time of application or be ranked among top 10% in class.
- Applicants with outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities but with a lower GPA of 3.30 or above or a lower class rank (among top 15%) may be considered. Evidence of these qualities, which are subject to examination by the JC Talent Development Secretariat, may include but not limited to awards, prizes, or other forms of recognition / credentials for demonstrating leadership in projects that benefit the community or other outstanding achievements. Recommendation letter is required for these applicants.

- Students must have contributed a minimum of 40 hours of voluntary services to the community during their secondary studies from Form 4 to Form 6. All training hours of voluntary services are NOT counted.

- For Year 1 students, they must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance; or for Year 2 or above students, they must have attained a Year GPA of 3.0 or above in the previous academic year.
- Both local and non-local students are eligible.
- Preference will be given to students with financial need.

The Scholarships Sub-Committee, under the Student Affairs Committee of the Faculty of Education, is responsible for the selection process, while the nominations are to be confirmed by the Senate Committee on University Scholarships.
