RGC-AoE Center for Genomic Studies on Plant-Environment Interaction for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

Established in 2017, research focus of the Center is to understand plant adaptation to abiotic stresses, and the mechanisms of gene regulation relating to plant-environment interactions, with an ultimate goal to identify useful functional genes and effective molecular markers to help generating new adaptive varieties and agrobiotechnology. To combat problems arising from climate change, including water scarcity, global warming, and topsoil nutrient depletion, so as to strive for a balance between sustainable agriculture and food security, the Center pledges to advance researches through integration of cutting-edge technologies in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology, and international collaboration and information sharing with scientists worldwide.

Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium

The Herbarium was renamed as the Shiu-Ying Hu Herbarium in 2013 for the extension of the legacy of the late Prof. Hu’s contribution in plant taxonomy. The Herbarium collection contains about 38,000 plant specimens, and a new platform has been established to document specimen collection, botanical images, GPS locations, DNA tissues and taxonomic archive information of local flora.
