‘Moment by Moment’ – Master of Arts in Fine Arts Graduation Exhibition
The Department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong is delighted to present the ‘Moment by Moment: The Master of Arts in Fine Arts Graduation Exhibition 2022’, which will be held from 11 July to 31 July 2022 in Gallery I of the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The artworks of 16 graduates will be exhibited.
The exhibition is titled ‘Moment by Moment’: –
I can’t hear the thunderclap in the midsummer, nor can I gaze the lightning fading away. You say that my eyes can’t hold my tears; what’s left are merely two cavities that reflect no one.
But look, the street is full of people of my kind.
We walk and walk… and just can’t stop. I have no idea whether we are pushed forward by every moment, or instead moving on ourselves?
I cannot be sure.
“Do not walk, let’s fly.”
“But how?”
“Only when you lift your feet off the ground, you may fly.”
“But to where?”
“Hush, just fly freely in this very moment and soar in the long and free journey.”
The 16 graduates include: Peggy Sze Wan CHAN, Frank Freeman, Jeff Tsz Fung CHENG, Anne Hiu Wa CHOW, Lum Cheuk Lam KAM, Polly Siu San LAU, Irene Ka Man LAW, Vincent Kwun Leung LEE, Alice Nga Kei IEONG, Limin XU, Tezuka Wai Hin NG, Helen Wai Chi PANG, Jean Wai Yin TSOI, Esther Chun Yan WONG, Iris WONG and Janice Yuen Yee WONG. Coming from various backgrounds and carrying different stories, such as being a mother, a teacher, a film art director, an architect, a psychotherapist, a photographer, or a scientist, the graduates extend their creativity through different media including painting, photography, video and mixed media installation.
‘≥3.8Mbps’ – Master of Arts in Fine Arts Year One Exhibition
The Department of Fine Arts of the Chinese University of Hong Kong is delighted to present the ‘≥3.8Mbps’ – The Master of Arts in Fine Arts First Year Exhibition at the Hui Gallery, New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 11th July to 31st July 2022. The exhibition will show the artworks from 15 first-year MAFA students.
The exhibition is titled ‘≥3.8Mbps’. This group of symbols refers to the minimum internet speed required during online classes. It also represents the unavoidable constraint on our first-year students. In the past year, the students were forced to be isolated in their studies and artwork creation, connecting to each other is only possible through data transmission. ‘≥3.8Mbps’ is a challenge faced by all the students. Despite the difficulties on their way to art, students are not hesitant to forge ahead, striving to surpass themselves, transforming the obstacles into their drive for creation.
The first-year MAFA students who are participating in the exhibition came from different backgrounds and professions. These various experiences have been integrated into their artworks through their creativity, expressing their own unique visual experiences and feelings.
The 15 first-year students include: Scofield Ho Yin CHAN, Max Yu Ching CHENG, Ka Yue CHIU, Hiu Sin HO, Charlton IP, Amy Hang Sze KONG, Clara Wai Yan LAM, Abby Yan Yee LEE, King Man LEUNG, Calis Ching Man LEUNG, Pyrce Ka Ying LUK, Elena Ching Yee MAN, Chi Yan SIU, Zooey Lok Yee SO, Monica Ka Ki TSANG.
Among them, Calis Ching Man LEUNG won many awards including the FRANZ Rising Star Award (FRSA) – 2nd runner up and the Louis Vuitton Scholarship in 2021, and held her first solo exhibition in the same year. Max Yu Ching CHENG was awarded the Local Arts Administration Scholarship 2021 from the Art Development Council. Clara Wai Yan LAM won Gold Medal in the International Metropolis Youth Arts Festival (Open Group) in 2020 and the 2019 Year Prize for Academic Excellence (Visual Arts) in the Education University of Hong Kong. Scofield Ho Yin CHAN won in the Black and White Category, Images of Asia, Asian Geographic Monthly Competition in February 2020, and also in the Monochrome Category in the National Geographic Wheelock Hong Kong Photo Contest 2019.
