凌旻華是一名社會文化人類學家。她的研究以移民和城市化對社會文化與環境的影響為中心,地域上則聚焦中國。她以深入的民族誌研究為基礎,探索個人與社區如何在更大的政治與社會經濟力量下體驗、塑造和理解各種形式的流動性與現代性。她的專著《難以安放的一代:上海打工子女邊緣成長記》是首部關於中國打工子女從學校走向勞動力市場的縱向研究,揭示了通過日常實踐的包容和排斥實現的城市治理政治。目前她正進行第二本專著的研究,從飲食文化和衛生角度探究中國農村在經歷了長達數十年的大規模勞動移民和國家主導的城市化進程後的社會生態轉型。

凌博士在耶魯大學取得人類學博士學位後於2013年加入香港中文大學擔任助理教授。她曾任2016年布朗國際高等研究院研究員。在中大,凌博士教授有關中國、城市發展、環境人文學和研究方法的入門和高級課程以及一系列研究生研討班。同時她也為本科生和研究生提供有關移民、教育、飲食文化、衛生、城市發展、國家與社會關係以及中國社會文化變遷等課題的指導。
