Making Place in the Greater Bay Area International Symposium

Date & Time

14.05.2021 15.05.2021

Location

Hong Kong (online)

The objective of this symposium is to discuss the idea of ‘making place’ and how the transformation of the urban environment, through collective and incremental small-scale community actions, could produce significant effects on the quality of public spaces becoming a strategic tool for urban planning and design.

The ‘making place’ aims to provide an alternative lens to study and understand the wide range of informal processes and spontaneous urban phenomena that can influence the perception and use of public space.

The strategy for developing the Greater Bay Area into a world-class city cluster will undoubtedly provide new planning opportunities; however, there is a need to inform and enrich this top-down plan with the knowledge generated by bottom-up processes in order to positively influence the social life of public spaces and therefore impact the quality of life within the high-density urban environment.

Architects, urban designers, public space scholars and policymakers will discuss and debate this topic and related questions along with an engaged audience.

This symposium will be online and open to the public. Please register with this link or scan the QR code below for updates.
