Alumnus Suen Chun Sing’s MArch project “Reconnecting Public with the Sea”
Date & Time
07.10.2021Chief Executive of HKSAR, Carrie Lam, outlined plans for a windsurfing training centre to be built in Shek O in the policy address 2021. This site, having been abandoned since early 2000, is an ideal location for water sports training as it faces Tai Tam Bay. The new public complex, to be completed in five years’ time, will provide lecture rooms, gymnasium, changing facilities and accommodation.
Our alumnus Suen Chun Sing (MArch 2013) has suggested a similar proposal for the site in his MArch thesis “Reconnecting Public with the Sea”, under the supervision of Prof. Sebastian Law. Taking into careful consideration the needs of different stakeholders and site analysis, the thesis envisioned turning the Shek O Quarry into a sailing centre, serving the needs of both professional athletes and the community.
