This joint design studio with Delft University of Technology focused on the urban-rural interface at a New Development Area in Northeast New Territories, Hong Kong. Under the guidance of Prof. Thomas Chung and Prof. Patrick Hwang, it investigated the complex issues and challenges facing the area, while exploring its emerging opportunities and making alternative proposals to the officially planned development.

In April 2017, a group of TU Delft students visited Hong Kong for a week, during which they joined our MArch students in field research, meeting with local stakeholders and professionals, attending workshops, seminars and reviews. Two months later, the students from both universities presented their ideas at TU Delft. During this trip, CUHK students also participated in the InDeSem International Design Seminar 2017, visited world-renowned architectural and urban design practices such as OMA, MVRDV, West 8 and DakAkker, as well as the architectural cluster in Rotterdam, including Kunsthal, Netherlands Architecture Institute, Timmerhuis, Markthal, Schouwburgplein, Cube Houses, Museum Boijmans and Huis Sonneveld.
