Re: Summer Session 2021-22
Dear Students,
If you wish to enrol summer courses, please pay attention to the following and refer to the “Information on Summer Session, 2021-22” now posted on RES homepage.
1. |
Default mode of teaching and examinations |
As decided by the University, the default mode of teaching and examinations for courses offered in the University Summer Session 2021-22 will be online, except for some courses approved otherwise due to pedagogical needs. Please observe the announcement from the course teachers or the Departments concerned if there are changes from the default teaching mode for summer courses. |

2. |
Maximum Course Load |
Except with prior permission of the Dean of the Faculty to which the student belongs, a student shall take no more than 6 units of courses in the Summer Session. In addition, the year course load for students is 39 units. Students who wish to register more than 39 units in an academic year MUST submit the application by using this System: “Online Application for Exceeding Year Course Load of 39 units (for Summer Session only)”. The deadline for this online application is set at 5:30 p.m. on 1 April for updating of course load, if applicable, before the course registration that is scheduled from 11 – 13 April 2022. Please observe other relevant information on the related website. If there are very strong reasons (e.g. making up graduation requirements) to take more than 6 units in the Summer Session, students should send email via the Faculty Office (to which the student belongs) and seek approval from the Faculty Dean concerned to take more than 6 units in the Summer Session. The Faculty will pass the approval to RES directly and it is not necessary for students to submit the approval letter/email to RES. Only upon the approval given by the Faculty, RES will adjust the course load for the students concerned. Please approach the Faculty Office for any questions regarding your application results. The application deadline for this application is also set at 5:30p.m on 1 April 2022 for updating course load for the course registration round that takes place from 11-13 April 2022. Submission after this deadline will only be entertained during the course add/drop period in May 2022 for the Summer Session. |

Graduating students take summer courses |
Graduating students (i.e. students whose expected year/term of graduation is 2nd term 2021-22) MUST seek the approval of Major department for taking the summer course by completing the form “Application Form for Enrolling Summer Session” and submit the approved form to RES on or before 1 April, or at the time prior to adding courses if they have not done so by the above deadline. System will NOT allow graduating students to register any summer courses (including courses offered in the CUHK International Summer School) if they have NOT got the approval of their Major department. Graduating students who plan to take summer course(s) should also pay attention to our mass mailing dated 23 February 2022 on degree conferment dates. Their graduation results will be announced in mid-August or after, and their degrees will be conferred on 15 October 2022, subject to fulfillment of all graduation requirements. |

Students on suspension of study/services |
Students who are on suspension of study for the whole academic year or 2nd term 2021-22 (excluding those participating in exchange programme or internship) are unable to register summer courses under CUSIS. If they have special circumstances and would like to enroll in Summer Session, they need to seek special approval from the Major department and submit the approved “Application Form for Enrolling Summer Session” by 1 April to RES, or at the time prior to adding courses if they have not done so by the above deadline. For some students who have already been suspended from University services in accordance with the University Regulations, they cannot register summer courses unless they have taken the appropriate actions. |

Course registration under CUSIS (11 - 13 April) |
Time appointment for course selection is now available in “Enrolment Dates” under CUSIS. From 4 April onwards, students may make use of the CUSIS system functions to pre-select classes. Actual course registration period under CUSIS will be from 11 April (8:30 p.m.) to 13 April (8:30 p.m.). Course enrolment process under CUSIS is on a first-come-first-served basis and in batch mode, subject to fulfillment of course enrolment rules and availability of quotas, except courses with add/drop consent prescribed by the course offering department. Students who wish to add the courses with add consent or add the courses of which they do not fulfill the enrolment rules should approach the course offering department for advice. For students who are put on wait list during course registration, please note that the wait list information under CUSIS will be removed after the course registration period since taking summer courses is optional. Hence, students MUST add the intended course again during the course add/drop period if they still wish to enrol the course. |
