Price List as of Sep 2014. The Laboratory Animal Services Management Committee has agreed to limit increase of charges to approximately 5% on all our products and services in line with HK's underlying inflation rate. The updated list is now available here.
A new Sample Size Calculator is now available. Please use this to determine group sizes for your studies when applying for AEEC approval
Animal models of human disease: Challenges in enabling translation. An interesting article on the challenges facing translating animal experimental data to information useful to human disease (available whilst on campus network or VPN)

Researchers are also encouraged to follow the ARRIVE Guidelines when publishing scientific data involving animals. The ARRIVE (Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments) guidelines are intended to improve the reporting of animal experiments.They have been published in the journal PLoS Biology and eleven other journals (NC3Rs 2013). Post Approval Monitoring (PAM)
As part of CUHK’s commitment to high quality animal research & welfare the Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (AEEC) has instigated a PAM system to monitor project compliance. Random checking of projects will commence soon.
Please ensure that:
1. Any procedure you conduct is AEEC approved.
2. All personnel involved are appropriately licensed for the specific procedure.
3. That the conditions of the AEEC & License are followed.
4. Cage cards and post-operative cards are filled out properly

August 2013 The past year has seen a rapid increase in animal feed and bedding costs of over 9% inflation year on year, whereas caging and animal equipment prices have increased between 16-20% year on year.
With some cost savings made elsewhere within LASEC, and following careful consideration, the Laboratory Animal Services Management Committee agreed to limit increase of charges to approximately 5% on the majority of our products and services. Rabbit issuing prices will however increase by HK$20 each to help cover losses in this area.
New prices will come into effect on September 1st 2013.
June 2013. Department of Health Visits CUHK. The Department of Health, the licensing authority for Animals (Control of Experiments) Ordinance CAP 340, held an announced visit of CUHK animal facilities on June 13th to ensure compliance with the ordinance. Further unannounced visits are expected in the future. CUHK researchers are reminded to maintain the high standards set on the recent visit. Please familiarise yourselves with the conditions of your licence, especially keeping Form 6 and Form 7 records. Further details and useful information can be found on our Welfare & Ethics section.
