YUNA

Yale University-New Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program

YUNA 2022-2023 Theme: Education & Technology

The Yale University-New Asia (YUNA) Exchange program will resume two-way travel for the 2022-2023 academic year. The YUNA program is the chance for eight Yale and eight New Asia College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to build life-long friendships, dive deeply into the year’s theme, and network professionally and academically. Students will work in teams of two Yale to research and present on a topic related to the year’s theme in an American context. Subject to public health and Yale University guidelines, Yale students will travel to Hong Kong during spring break. (If travel is not possible to Hong Kong, an alternative trip to Singapore will occur.) This curated trip will not only allow participants to explore the theme beyond research but also give them a chance to experience Hong Kong through the eyes of local university students. Teams will present their research in Hong Kong during spring break.

What is the YUNA Program?

YUNA is a unique program that gives Yale students the opportunity to work intimately with Yale faculty and CUHK students and faculty. It is a transformative experience that is the beginning of lifelong friendships, a space to have authentic experiences, and a chance to see the world from a new perspective.

What will YUNA participants do?

YUNA participants work closely with their teammates (another Yalie) on a research project exploring a theme-related issue in the U.S. Teams can choose to explore the theme through a variety of perspectives like policy, infrastructure, social impact, etc. During the work process, YUNA participants form deep bonds with the advisor, each other, and the Hong Kong students.

Travel to Hong Kong is subject to public health conditions and Yale University guidelines. An alternative trip to Singapore is being planned if Hong Kong is not possible.
