New Academic Year Kick-started with an Inspiring Evening

23 September 2016

The kick off gathering on 23 September 2016 kick-started another fruitful academic year for students of Global Business Studies (GBS) and International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE).

This year, Dr. Regina Mui, Director of Corporate Finance in Gaw Capital Advisors Limited, was invited as an honourable speaker and she shared with participating students on a topic of “Investment banking, getting started, survival and beyond”. Dr. Mui started her career in investment banking as a summer intern while studying in CUHK. She enlightened students with some valuable first-hand insights from the perspective of a senior executive, including job application, interview and people’s expectation.

Another honourable speaker was Mr. Stefan Brunn, the managing partner at Nova Founders Capital. Graduating in International Business from Copenhagen Business School, one of the partner universities of GLOBE, Mr. Brunn touched on the key to success when doing a start-up. He also illustrated his entrepreneurial experience by quoting some successful examples of Lazada and Zalora which he co-founded before he joined Nova Founders Capital.

Participating students were also inspired by the sharing of local and exchange students who have engaged themselves in different experiential learning initiatives and internships. They were Marco Po (GBS, year 2), Jeffrey Ho (IBCE-CUHK, year 3) and Andrew Bridges (IBCE-USC, year 2). Students were motivated to make the most of their university life.

Further flair was added to the Kick off gathering by the dancing performance from IBCE-CUHK students and Demonstration-of-Beat ("Dem Beat" in short) by GBS students.

Over 80 GBS and IBCE attended this annual signature event this year.
