GBS made history by winning the Global Finals of Peak Time 2013 in Riga, Latvia

Outcompeting the other 19 finalist teams from all over the world, team Glober captured the Champion in the Global Finals of Peak Time International Business Student Competition 2013 held during 2 - 5 May 2013 in in Riga, Latvia, becoming the first Hong Kong team winning the competition in its history.

Peak Time is the largest international business student competition in Eastern Europe involving participants from all over the world, organized by Stockholm School of Economics in Riga since 1999. The international community of the competition promotes cultural integration and gives the participants an opportunity to expand their networks and exchange ideas with the most talented students. Peak Time 2013 gathered more than 1,500 creative and entrepreneurial students from over 200 universities and 70 countries.

In the online preliminary round which attracted over 600 participating teams, each team was challenged to run a company on an analytical business simulation (CESIM), making strategic decisions across sales and marketing, production, research and development, logitstics, human resourses, operations and finance in a virtual business environment. Participating teams were also required to submit a presentation deck on a business case.

Only the top 20 teams could win a ticket to the Global Finals at Riga, where all teams had to compete against each other on CESIM with advanced complexity and a business case presentation with only 4 hours of preparation. Team Glober’s performance, particularly in the case presentation, was highly commendable by the judging panel.

During the 4 days of the Global Finals, finalists had the chance to meet each other at various events, including the cultural evening where people from different countries shared about their cultures. Team Glober showcased some Hong Kong traditional snacks to the audience.

The Champion team is led by Alan Yip (GBS batch 6) and his team members include Alex Cheung (GBS batch 9), Christie Leung (GBS batch 8), Eric Fong (GBS batch 6) and Boris Ng (GBS batch 6). The team was awarded the Champion with EUR 2,000 cash prize, as well as the People’s Choice Award with prizes sponsored by Microsoft.
