GBS’s new wins in Allianz Global Investors Business Competition

8 April 2013

Two GBS students in two separate teams worked with their counterparts from other universities, stealing the limelight in the Allianz Global Investors Business Competition during 5 - 8 April 2013 by winning the championship.

Organized by the Allianz Global Investors Asia Pacific (AllianzGI AP), an asset management company, this competition highlighted the challenges and managerial dilemmas faced by business leaders in real world and aimed to develop students’ creativity and problem-solving ability.

Among numerous applicants of the competition, the finalists were shortlisted from earlier interviews with AllianzGI’s professionals. The 24 finalists were grouped into 6 teams, each with a mix of universities, working on two separate topics. After receiving the case material, participating teams were only given 72 hours to work on the designated business topic and deliver a 20-minute presentation in front of AllianzGI’s senior executives, including the CEO Asia Pacific.

Alan Yip (GBS Batch 6) and his winning team worked on the topic, ‘Managing Innovation in AllianzGI AP’, while Vincent Yip (GBS Batch 7) and his winning team presented their insights about the transformational growth strategy for AllianzGI AP. Each of the winning teams was awarded with HK$20,000 cash prize. Besides, finalists with outstanding performance were offered summer internship opportunities at AllianzGI.
