A team of four GBS students won the Champion of the 2012 HSBC YDC Young Entrepreneur Challenge with their business idea ‘Young Intelligence’ on 14 July 2012 in Hong Kong.
The business idea of the winning team, entitled “Young Intelligence”, aspires to help primary children achieving a healthy and balanced whole person development by offering portfolio advisory service. The team is led by Tony Law (GBS Batch 7) and composes of Alan Yip (GBS Batch 6), Keith Poon (GBS Batch 6) and Jocelyn Ng (GBS Batch 7). They were awarded with HK$30,000 cash prize and would represent Hong Kong in the Asia Pacific HSBC Young Entrepreneur Challenge 2012, competing against regional champions from Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Organized by the Young Entrepreneur Development Council since 2000, with sponsorship from the Hong Kong Bank Foundation and the Innovation and Technology Commission in 2012, the HSBC YDC Young Entrepreneur Challenge introduces participants to the entrepreneurial community, and helps them acquire skills that are not taught in a formal classroom, such as developing business plans, experiencing the trials and tribulations of fundraising, and starting a business.
The 2012 Challenge gathered 1,305 contestants, making up a total of 307 teams from Hong Kong. The three 3 rounds of competitions took place during February to July in 2012. Starting from a 1000-word executive summary, 50 selected teams were then invited to submit a 5-page business plan and a 1-min online video. Finally, the top 10 teams with their full business plans presented their business ideas at the Hong Kong Final to compete for the top award.
