Administrative Position(s)
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS), working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and the mainland China, is committed to advancing patient services, research, and training and education to the highest quality in all major areas of ophthalmology and visual sciences. We are also dedicated to worthwhile community programmes and public education projects. DOVS, always “in search of excellence”, is looking for candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, and ophthalmic studies on disease entities, including COVID-19, children eye diseases autoimmune diseases, ocular surface diseases, refractive errors, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, and retina diseases. We are highly committed to supporting career development of all staff members.
The appointee(s) will be responsible for (a) providing assistance in daily office operation, such as data entry, handling invoice and reimbursement; (b) providing secretarial support; (c) providing logistics support to events and meetings; and (e) performing other tasks as assigned.
Applicants should have (i) completed secondary education; (ii) Grade E/Level 2 or above in at least 5 subjects in HKCEE, including Chinese and English (Syllabus B); OR any combination of results in at least 5 HKDSE subjects (including Level 2 or above in Chinese and English): Level 2 or above in NSS subjects, “Attained” or above in ApL subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects), and Grade E or above in Other Language subjects; (iii) fast and accurate typing skill; (iv) proficiency in computer applications, including Chinese word-processing, and MS PowerPoint and Excel; (v) a good command of spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua); and (vi) good interpersonal skills and telephone manners.
Applicants must submit copies of HKCEE/HKDSE certificates showing that they have fulfilled the language requirements and academic qualifications stated above, otherwise their applications will NOT be considered.

The appointee(s) will be responsible for
(a) providing assistance to liaise with users, contractors and other IT teams for the setup of clinical and lab equipment, programme development and system maintenance;
(b) maintaining existing hardware and software;
(c) providing IT technical /audio visual support for Departmental events and activities;
(d) managing Department websites;
and (e) performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Duties in weekday evenings and on weekends will be required.
Applicants should have:
(i) a Higher Diploma or above in Computer Science, Information Technology or related disciplines from a recognised university or a technical institute;
(ii) hands-on experience in providing hardware and software trouble-shooting services, including Windows, Mac OS and Linux;
(iii) knowledge of and experience in managing hardware firewall and its operating systems;
(iv) experience in computer network (LAN and Wireless), network security and storage systems (e.g. NAS, SAN, etc.);
(v) hands-on experience in setting up and maintaining MS Windows servers;
(vi) self-motivation, good organisational, communication, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills;
(vii) openness to learning new skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member;
(viii) the ability to multitask, including engaging with system users;
(ix) at least 2 years’ post-qualification work experience;
and (x) a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Hands-on experience in WordPress and Zoom would be advantageous.

Research Position(s)

We are also dedicated to worthwhile community programs and public education projects. DOVS, always “in search of excellence”, is looking for local and overseas candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving clinical ophthalmology, ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, specific disease entities such as children eye diseases, autoimmune eye diseases, ocular surface diseases, refractive errors, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, retina diseases and genetic eye diseases.
Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree; (ii) proficiency in English; (iii) the ability to work independently and within a team; (iv) a keen interest in research work, preferably in the field of ophthalmology and visual sciences; (v) an effective, intelligent, energetic, resourceful and forward-looking work attitude; and (vi) personal integrity, sincerity and good team spirit at work. Preference will be given to those who have experience in at least one of the following areas: (1) cell biology; (2) molecular genetics; (3) ophthalmic investigations; (4) epidemiology; (5) medical statistics; (6) data analysis; (7) artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms; and (8) software engineering. Both local and overseas applications are welcome.
Duties include (a) handling small animals and developing disease model; (b) conducting experiment with primary human tissues and blood; (c) co-ordinating research projects and developing research methods; (d) processing clinical and investigative data; (e) statistical analysis, manuscript and grant preparation; and (f) performing other departmental tasks as assigned.
