Course Description

This 22 – hour course is designed to prepare midwives to enhance the advanced clinical and decision making skills in caring women with complicated obstetric related problems.

In addition, to facilitate the application of an evidence-based approach to bed side practice with confidence and competence

Intended Learning Outcomes

• Appraise and apply biophysical theory and contemporary evidenced based approaches to develop knowledge relating to the complexity of acute conditions
• Understand levels of high dependency care and review the pathways and delivery of critical care
• Understand the latest evidence-based standards and guidelines that inform and shape high dependency care             
• Evaluate the contemporary issues in high dependency care including rise management, manpower allocation, clinical governance and professional guidance
