Professor Zhang Mingzhi and Professor Haoyu Chen of Joint Shantou International Eye Center (JSIEC) of Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong have been ranked among the TOP 100 most influential ophthalmologists in academic achievements in China, among more than 30,000 ophthalmologists in the country. The ranking is nationally recognized, based solely on articles in Web of Science, taking into account the journal metrics, number of citations on Google Scholar, types of article, position in the authorship, H index and activity.
Professor Mingzhi Zhang, Vice-Director (executive), is ranked 39. She takes full responsibility of JSIEC but is still exceedingly engaged in clinical service and fruitful in academic research, having published >150 papers in international indexed peer-reviewed journals with H-index 23. Prof Zhang is remarkable too in training and education, leading our JSIEC to establish >15 ophthalmic training centres both in the Chaoshan area and in faraway localities including Tibet and Xinjiang. Her contributions to ophthalmology are phenomenal.
Professor Haoyu Chen, Associate Director (research and education), is ranked 53. He takes care of ocular trauma and vitreo-retina service, clinical research, basic research, undergraduate education, and post-graduate programs at JSIEC. Meanwhile, he is also an established ophthalmic researcher internationally known in molecular medicine, ophthalmic imaging, computer software, with over 135 international indexed peer-reviewed publications and H-index 25. He also joins Prof Zhang in establishing ophthalmic training centers. Prof Chen is a role model in the new generation of ophthalmologists.
