Situated in the hugely populated New Territories East of Hong Kong, the Perinatal Medicine Team of The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of The Chinese University of Hong Kong manages 6000-7000 childbirth in Prince of Wales Hospital every year. The Unit maintains the highest delivery rate amount all public units in Hong Kong since its establishment in late 1980s. The unit also receives referral of high risk cases such as morbid adherence of placenta and placental praevia for special treatments.
The unit’s overall Caesarean section rate is 22-24%, and provides trainees precious opportunities to learn complicated procedures such as forceps delivery, vaginal breech delivery, vaginal twin delivery, external cephalic version. It is accredited by both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as the Obstetric and MFM training centre.
