Medical genetics and precision medicine are two of the most rapidly evolving areas in medical practice. Genetic Counselling is an essential part in these two fields as the bridge between healthcare professionals and patients.

With the advances in the genetic and genomic technologies, the underlying genetic patho-mechanisms of many rare diseases as well as common diseases are now revealed. Genetic counselling is not only essential in the process of making diagnosis of these diseases and in the post-diagnosis management, but also important for genetic screening and risk assessment in the affected patients, their families, and in public health perspective. The Programme prepares students with practical knowledge and skill in providing genetic counselling and care to married couples, expected mothers, paediatric and adult patients, and in facilitating communication among the clinicians, laboratory technicians and patients.
