The 4th Greater China MOOC Symposium (GCMS 2017) is hosted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), co-organized by Shenzhen University and UOOC, organized by Knowledge & Education Exchange Platform (KEEP), Office of Academic Links (China) and Shenzhen UOOC Online Education Company Ltd, sponsored by Google and K.C. Wong Education Foundation. It is successfully held on 20 - 21 July 2017. Over 120 participants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan even the U.S., Spain and Thailand came to the event to share and know more about the development of online learning.
4th Greater China MOOC Symposium Keynote Speech
The symposium kicked off with an opening ceremony with Prof. Isabella Wai-yin Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong gave an opening speech and acknowledged the honourable guests and speakers. Following the opening ceremony, first keynote session from Prof. Kit-Tai Hau captivated the audience with his idea of integrating Face-to-Face, Flip, MOOC learning. Interactive discussion through panel discussion moderated by Prof. Irwin King was the second session of the day. Notable experts in e-Learning: Prof. Grahame Bilbow, Prof. Siu Cheung Kong, Prof. Xiaoming Li, Prof. Anchi Liu, Prof. Ting-Chuen Pong, Prof. Isabella Wai-yin Poon, and Prof. Eva Wong shared their thoughts and ideas about online learning. They answered some questions from the intrigued audience in the event, such as what are the key aspects to start an online education program in their own respective institution. Several parallel sessions followed before the second keynote session from Prof. Fenghua Nie took place. He explained how Tsinghua University utilizes XuetangX to catch up with the trend of online learning. Charlie Nguyen, CEO of CMS Global started the second day of the symposium as the third keynote speaker. He fascinated the audience by sharing some insights that he came across in the past 30 years expanding online education in the US. As interesting as Charlie’s talk, fourth keynote session presented by Mr. Zhigang Sun, Strategic Director of NetEase Education Division, described how NetEase expands its business from online gaming to online education, from a beginner to a leading company which provides comprehensive products and services in online education.
4th Greater China MOOC Symposium Audience
Apart from the 4 keynote speakers, the symposium has 18 invited speakers and 25 regular speakers, presenting their experience and ideas surrounding the theme of this year, “how to build an infrastructure to support eLearning development in all phases of lifelong learning”. Their topics cover but not limited to technology, pedagogy and policy in the field of online learning.
The symposium also presented the 2017 MOOCr Awards. There were four different categories in the awards, namely “Course Design and Quality”, “Course Tools and Applications, “Course management and promotion” and “Group Contribution”. The best online courses among the four categories were not only awarded with plaques and certificates but also had the chance to present their online courses in GCMS 2017.
Members of the GCMS Organizing Committee were also brought together by the symposium and mapped out the future of Greater China MOOC Symposium. Members attended the discussion include Anchi LIU, Irwin KING, Maosong Sun, Nen-Fu HUANG, Shih-Chung Jessy KANG, Wei-I LEE, Lian LI, Xiaoming LI, Ting-Chuen PONG, Huamin QU, Dechen ZHAN and Qingguo ZHOU. After discussion, there are the following decisions:

3. Publish symposium brochure
Due to the time limit, discussion on the name of the brochure, publishing company, budget, etc is shifted to Wechat group.
