The KEEP team at CUHK and EdUHK is jointly organizing a seminar for teachers to get in touch with the latest innovative online teaching practices. The seminar consists of two small talks, with details as follows:
Innovative Practices in Online Teaching
Mr. Eddy Yet, Project Coordinator, Knowledge & Education Exchange Platform (KEEP), The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Since the launch of KEEP in 2015, 219 online courses, mostly from local universities, have been offered with a variety of innovative pedagogies and blended learning practices. KEEP will share how these practices are changing the way we teach and learn.
Bilingual Text-mining for Personalized Learning Reflection
Prof. Siu-Cheung Kong, Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology, The Education University of Hong Kong
The EdUHK team shares the pedagogical experience of using bilingual text-mining in course delivery for an efficient and evident tracking of students’ conceptual change in course learning. The bilingual text-mining system incorporates a bilingual taxonomy of domain-specific keywords for an automatic identification and counting of matching keywords in student-generated text on the learning management system Moodle. Each student can access the hierarchical visualization for an interactive comparison of his/her own usage of matching keywords with the whole-class usage. This data-oriented initiative is potential to support students to make concrete reflection on their personalized progress in learning course concepts.
The arrangement of the seminar is as follows:
