Udacity Nanodegrees: Online Courses that Cost $1000 USD

Udacity, one of the leaders in vocational courses, offers premium MOOCs, aiming to provide learners with the necessary skills to enter different parts of the tech industry, such as artificial intelligence, programming, software engineering, and more. One of Udacity’s biggest hits was its Nanodegree course on self-driving cars, created with the help of notable companies such as Mercedes-Benz and Nvidia.

 Udacity’s Nanodegree courses are known for its high-quality curriculum that focuses on practical skill sets that may be required for specific jobs. It takes about 6 to 12 months to complete, requiring 10 to 20 hours per week. Most courses receive student reviews in between 4.3 to 4.8 out of 5. However, the quality of this program comes with a high price, some costing $600 to $1000 USD for one term of a course.

Udacity programs are designed with the help of expert companies to facilitate the learnings of complicated subjects. The material, according to many reviews, is very high quality. What really sets Udacity apart from other programs (such as Coursera, EdX, Futurelearn) is the help that you can receive while taking the course. In an Uber-like fashion, previous graduates of a course are paid to evaluate the projects of new students. Students could also ask for help from the community of other course-takers or personally ask the professionals that Udacity has hired, just to answer question, during the office hours.

Another reason of the high costs for Udacity’s Nanodegrees is the certification one can attain upon graduation. However, the merit a Nanodegree has during a job interview is unproven. Many employers may not be aware of the program to trust it or even recognize it, but the main selling point of the courses remains to be the industry-relevant skills learners can gain, as long as they actively participate.
