Education
The Department Research Committee takes care of postgraduate studies, including providing essential training workshops and didactic lectures and monitoring progress of degree research work.
There are two study modes currently in our postgraduate studies, including
1) Ph.D. and M.Phil. programme, and
2) M.Sc. programme
1. Ph.D. and M.Phil. programme
Since the establishment of the Department in 1983, more than 60 Ph.D., M.D. and M.Phil. students have graduated from the Department and most of them have become university professors, chief medical services, postdoctoral fellows or working in other related medical and health institutions. List of graduate
2. M.Sc. programme
The Department is actively engaged in multidisciplinary research and education because of increasing demands on orthopaedics and related profession. Based on increasing needs, the Department established three MSc programs, including:
1) MSc in Sports Medicine and Health Science,
2) MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicne, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Orthopaedics (merged from MSc/PgD in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation, and MSc/PgD in Geriatric Orthopaedics)
3) MSc in Biomedical Engineering (BME).
M.Sc. in Sports Medicine and Health Science
The postgraduate programme is designed to provide advanced academic training to sports medicine professionals, especially medical doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, sports scientists and allied health professionals who want to equip with the latest advanced knowledge and leading-edge skills in order to stay ahead professionally in the field of sports and exercise medicine. By providing advanced theories, knowledge combined with latest advanced hands on clinical practices for sports and exercise medicine, these programmes are tailored to offer a foundation for future leaders in the field of sports and exercise medicine either in clinical research or professional practice.
Sport injuries and their prevention and treatment form the cornerstone of the programmes. A wide range of related medical topics such as biomechanics, physiology and psychology are also covered in the programmes.

M.Sc. in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Orthopaedics
MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Orthopaedics (MSc MRGO) is designed to meet the needs of increasing training and education demand of the health care professionals in the field of rehabilitation, musculoskeletal medicine and geriatric orthopaedics in line with the projected ageing population and associated announced major development strategy of the Hospital Authority and SAR Government Health Care expansion plan in Hong Kong.
This consolidated MSc programme is combined from our previous programme, known as the MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation and MSc in Geriatric Orthopaedics, since 2017.

Objectives of the programme:
BME is a highly interdisciplinary and composed of elements from Medicine, Engineering and Biosciences. Accordingly, the objectives of MSC in BME are
To create a unique and rigorous programme that bridges and integrates the fields of pure biomedical and engineering disciplines, and to offer students an exciting interdisciplinary studying environment.
To educate and train future leaders in emerging areas which combine state-of-the-art technology with biomedicine applications to support a growing healthcare industry stimulated by breakthrough in biomedical engineering research.
Currently we are running both part-time and full-time two modes for MSC in BME. Details of the programme, entry requirement, faculty members and courses offered are found in the programme homepage:
