Health is the first and foremost requisite of a quality life.
We as medical researchers at LiHS believe that we have a critical role to play in contributing to the quality life of the populace through scientific research that is readily transferrable to clinical application and of direct relevance to the community.
As the founding director of LiHS, I see great challenge and potential ahead in leading this new research institute to chart a new course in medical research for the University, the Hong Kong community, and the wider Asian region.
To this end, a clear positioning for the Institute at the outset is of fundamental importance. It should be more than an institutional structure, a research premise with state-of-the-art equipment, and an agent to distribute resources, but should also provide leadership in developing an environment that sustains scientific innovations and reinforces the transdisciplinary nature of research in health sciences.
