科技應用配合長者需要
The theme for this year's symposium is Gerontechnology. Gerontechnology is the study of technology and ageing with the aim of creating technological environment, including assistive technology and inclusive design, for innovative and independent living and social participation of older persons in good health, comfort and safety. Areas of application include housing, personal mobility and transportation, communication, health, work and recreation.
The symposium will focus on the use of advanced technology in care of elderly people and supporting independent living. Both overseas and local experts will be invited to speak at the Symposium. Overseas speakers include Dr. Takanori Shibata, the inventor of a seal robot named PARO that has documented psychological benefits of animal therapy for dementia patients and that has been certified by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration as a medical device. Local experts include The Chinese University of Hong Kong Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering Professor Xu Yangsheng, CADENZA Project Director Professor Jean Woo, Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing Director Professor Timothy Kwok as well as representatives from Innovations and Technology Commission, Hong Kong Housing Society, Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design and Shatin Hospital. |
