Presidents of CUHK and National Cheng Kung University Meet to Discuss Collaborative Plans
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) held online meeting on 10 March to discuss bilateral cooperation plans. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Dr. Jenny Su, President of NCKU. Participants of CUHK comprised Prof. Fok Tai-Fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Wong Suk-Ying, Associate Vice-President; Prof. Chiu Chi-Yue, Dean of Faculty of Social Science; Prof. Helene Fung, Chair of Department of Psychology and Executive Director of CUHK-NCKU Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science (CPOSS); Prof. Stephen Wong, Chairman of Department of Sports Science and Physical Education; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement Office (CEO). NCKU had representatives including Prof. Su Fong-Chin, Vice President; Prof. Lin Chung-I, Vice President and Director of Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof. Wang Hsiao-Wen, Vice President for International Affairs; Prof. Ricky Chuang, Associate Vice President for International Affairs; Prof. Liou Shyhnan, Director of Institute of Creative Industries Design, Executive Director of CPOSS; Prof. Susan Hu, Director of Department of Public Health, Research Director of CPOSS; Prof. Huang Tsang-Hai, Director of Institute of Physical Education, Health &Leisure Studies; and Prof. Chou Li-Fang, Chairman of Department of Psychology.
The two universities discussed to strengthen relationship based on previous cooperation. Collaboration areas range from the enhanced developments of CPOSS, sports science to smart hospital and campus epidemic prevention project related to “Casting the Light of Knowledge” programme of NCKU.
Since the establishment of partnership in 2007, CUHK has been collaborating closely with NCKU via a variety of projects in research and student interflow. Both universities are members of the Worldwide Universities Network and Cross-Strait Green University Consortium, and have jointly established CUHK-NCKU Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science. The meeting further enhanced understanding and bolstered the linkage between the two universities, building closer collaboration platforms for future development.
CUHK and Nanjing University Hold Online Meeting and Renew Collaborative Agreement
Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Professor Lu Jian, President of Nanjing University (NJU) chaired an online collaboration meeting on 22 March. CUHK Professor Sham Mai-har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Professor Cheng Chun-yiu, Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology; Professor Lam Tsz-ping, Co-Director of the CUHK-NJU Joint Research Center of Scoliosis and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of The China Engagement Office, attended the meeting. NJU had representatives including Vice President Prof. Wang Zhenlin; Prof. Qiu Yong, Director of Orthopaedics of Drum Tower Hospital, Co-Director of the CUHK-NJU Joint Research Center of Scoliosis; Ms. Li Xiaorong and Mr. Kong Jianfeng Director and Associate Director of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office.
The two presidents reviewed the past collaborations and the representatives further discussed to expand the scope of future cooperation covering the development of joint research center, focused projects, participation in Green University Consortium and Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Cooperation Alliance. New initiatives include the first online Green Life Summer School and establishing joint units in focused research areas. Collaboration agreement at university level was renewed at the meeting by the two presidents.
CUHK and NJU has been in close partnership since 1994 in a wide range of collaborative projects including research collaboration and student exchange programme. Both universities joined hands to build the joint scoliosis research center in 2006 with the aim of promoting research development and talent nurturing as China’s first research unit in scoliosis.
CUHK Holds Meeting with The Chinese Academy of Sciences Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Chinese Academy of Sciences Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics (CAS-CEQIQP) held online meeting on 18 March to discuss collaborative plans. The meeting was attended by Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Pan Jianwei, Director of CAS-CEQIQP and Provost of the University of Science and Technology of China. Participants of CUHK comprised Prof. Sham Mai Har, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Liu Ren Bao, Professor of Department of Physics and Director of Hong Kong Institute of Quantum Information Science and Technology.
CUHK launched and allocated resources to establish Hong Kong Institute of Quantum Information Science and Technology in 2018 to assemble the consortium of quantum scientists.
CUHK and Zhejiang Lab Discuss Collaborative Opportunities
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Zhejiang Lab met online on 29 January and 3 February to discuss collaborative opportunities. The research meetings brought together CUHK members and academics of Zhejiang Lab to discuss collaboration opportunity in the area of financial technology, data mining and intelligent networks. Zhejiang Lab is a research institute established jointly by the Zhejiang Provincial Government, Zhejiang University and Alibaba Group in 2017. Focusing on five areas including intelligent perception, artificial intelligence, intelligent computing, intelligent networks, and intelligent systems, it carries out researches on cutting-edge and fundamental topics, explores key technologies, develops core systems, and builds large-scale technology infrastructure and major research platforms.
CUHK Attends Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance Working Group Meeting
Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance (BHUA) organized online working group meeting cum Photography Competition Award Presentation Ceremony on 23 March. Participants joining the meeting included representatives of 20 member institutions of BHUA. Ms. Wing Wong, Director of China Engagement Office (CEO) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) took part in the meeting on behalf of the University. Progress report of BHUA was delivered at the meeting. Discussions were held among member institutions on the topics concerning development strategies during the post-epidemic period, resource sharing and online courses to enhance future collaboration plans.
Founded in 2018 by CUHK and various Hong Kong and Beijing universities, BHUA aims at establishing closer linkage and exchange, enhancing talent nurturing and research collaboration, as well as the levels of higher education in the two regions.
