Transportation and Logistics

Hong Kong’s success as a logistics hub lies in its strategic location in the centre of Asia and in its superior connectivity. Goods flow swiftly and efficiently between southern China and the rest of the world, and with the economic emergence of China – the world’s most populous consumer market and largest manufacturing base – Hong Kong’s dominance is set to continue.

Airline Management

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is the world’s busiest airport for international freight, and the fifth busiest for international passenger traffic. With more than 80 airlines flying into and out of the airport, and three major airlines utilising Hong Kong as a hub, opportunities abound for high-flying graduates from various disciplines to work in airline management as well as support functions. While openings generally require applicants to have some years of experience in industry, HKIA also has a management trainee programme open to final-year university students, designed to nurture, train and develop a competent and professional team of management talents specific to the airport business.

Maritime

Graduate positions in this industry would be in administration, management and accounting areas, to maintain the companies’ accounts and to keep track of all the containers, cargoes and documents via computer networks to provide 24-hour global cargo tracking. Large shipping companies also hire legal consultants to deal with legislation governing shipping contracts and arbitration. These employees would also be responsible for providing legal advice on cases involving accidents, losses and damages to goods or vessels. A degree in accounting or business administration is an advantage. For legal consultant positions, a relevant degree will be necessary.

Public Transportation Services

Graduate opportunities can be found with the railways, franchised bus companies and ferry companies that operate the trains, trams, buses, taxis and ferries that transport Hong Kong’s population every day.
