Maximising the use of Hong Kong’s scarce land is an economic priority. The HKSAR government has proposed a series of measures to optimise land use by releasing the potential of over 1,000 old industrial buildings through policies that encourage the redevelopment or conversion of industrial buildings by owners. A growing focus on sustainable development is also expected to open up job opportunities for graduates interested in this area.
Property agents are usually independent sales professionals who contract their services to real estate firms for a commission sharing agreement. Graduates with degrees in any discipline are accepted for entry in this area.
There are two types of property agents: residential and commercial real estate agents. Commercial real estate agents usually specialise in a particular property type such as retail, office, hospitality, shopping centres and industrial plants. Property agents need to provide advice and handle negotiations with their clients – tenants/buyers or landlords – as well as be alert to the changes in the state of the economy and the property market.
