Arts/ Cultural Management

Arts organizations include theatres, cinemas, galleries, arts centers, orchestras and national and regional arts organizations. This sector is suitable for those who have a passion for promoting arts and want to help artists gain wider recognition. Work will range from fund-raising to marketing venues, designing community and educational programmes and exhibitions, organizing projects and managing facilities and staff.

Job Nature / Typical Job Duties

  • Assist in developing and promoting arts programme in the community
  • Co-ordinate the centre’s programmes and related activities
  • Prepare proposals and apply the grants and sponsorships of art projects from government bodies and commercial organizations
  • Assist in handling arts administration work

General Requirements

  • Degree holder preferably in related disciplines, such as Art Management, Fine Arts, Media Arts, Performing Arts, Music, etc.
  • Passionate about the relevant arts or culture
  • Experience in marketing, public relations, and / or arts programming will be an advantage
  • Good events/project management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, well-organized and attention to details
  • Good communication and writing skills in both Chinese and English

 

Heritage Preservation

The government is increasingly supportive to efforts made to revitalize and conserve historical neighborhoods and buildings.

Posts in this sector include curator, archaeologist, archivist, art historian, education officer, publications designer, exhibition designer, restorer, conservator, tour guides, and architect. Many posts will require higher degree or professional qualifications, as well as prior relevant experience. They will often entail both project and people management. Those in this line will often have to operate within financial constraints, and balancing preservation with promotion.

  • Degree in Architecture, Building/Estate Surveying, Urban Planning or Civil Engineering, or equivalent
