From 29 May to 5 June, nine students of the College participated in the social service trip to the town of Fenglin in Hualien, Taiwan. They visited “The Secret Place of Kids”, a non-profit organisation, and mentored primary and junior secondary indigenous students whose parents had left Fenglin to work in other cities in Taiwan. “The Secret Place of Kids” is dedicated to providing after school care to these young children and teens in order to prevent them from being left unattended and to identify their physical and emotional needs. This summer, students of the College became the voluntary mentors for the centre. They gave homework guidance, led group games, prepared meals and crafted handmade soaps. Through these activities, close bonding was successfully built between the students in Hong Kong and those in Fenglin. For students of the College, the trip is certainly meaningful because they made a difference in other people’s life. The moments of togetherness of these days will become loving seeds in support of the Fenglin students for future growth. They can feel that they are cared by adults from far and near, and they never walk alone.
