Relocation of HKIX Route Server 1 (IPv4 and IPv6 on RS1) from HKIX1 to HKIX1c

Date:

HKIX IPv6 Route Server 1 on 13-Nov-2021 (Saturday) & 14-Nov-2021 (Sunday)

HKIX IPv4 Route Server 1 on 27-Nov-2021 (Saturday) & 28-Nov-2021 (Sunday)

Time Window:

0200 - 0800 HKT (UTC +8)

Maintenance:

Planned maintenance of HKIX IPv4 Route Server 1 (123.255.88.1) & IPv6 Route Server 1 (2001:7FA:0:1::CA28:A101) for relocation from HKIX1 to HKIX1c

Impact

HKIX IPv4 Route Server 2 (123.255.88.2) and IPv6 Route Server 2 (2001:7FA:0:1::CA28:A102) will not be affected.

There will be no impact to HKIX participants which have BGP sessions with both IPv4 route servers RS1 (123.255.88.1) & RS2 (123.255.88.2) and both IPv6 route servers RS1 (2001:7FA:0:1::CA28:A101) & RS2 (2001:7FA:0:1::CA28:A102). During the maintenance, your BGP sessions with RS1 may be up and down but your BGP sessions with the another route server will NOT be affected and the multi-lateral peering can still be maintained.

If you have not set up the IPv4 and IPv6 BGP sessions with both RS1 & RS2, you should do it ASAP for better resilience.

Production of HKIX New Core Site (HKIX1c)

In order to enhance the reliability and scalability of HKIX to cater for the ever-growing demands from the local as well as the regional and global Internet industry players for more stable and higher-speed interconnection services, HKIX has established a new core site and adopted the VXLAN EVPN Architecture with the following characteristics:

• The new core site HKIX1c is located on Hong Kong Island with independent power grid of core sites of HKIX1 and HKIX1b
• All core sites contain Core Switches and Access Switches interconnected by multiple 100GE/400GE links
• All sites are running in Active-Active mode
• Access Switches at HKIX1, HKIX1b and HKIX1c can serve connections of GE/10GE/100GE and 400GE (HKIX1b & HKIX1c) coming soon from participants
• All sites together provide power resilience, chassis resilience as well as site resilience
• The architecture is highly scalable and can support more satellite sites and resellers outside of CUHK campus

Starting from 10 Aug 2021, the new core site HKIX1c is in production and ready for accepting connections from HKIX participants. Participants are encouraged to take advantage of the multi-core architecture by connecting to all core sites for maximum resilience.

For details about the new core site and our services, please contact us at info [@] hkix.net.
