Things You May Be Interested to Know about the College T-shirt
If we talk about what is the most distinguishing College outfit, what comes up to you mind instantly? You may think of the College gown and the College T-shirt for sure. The College gown is designed for formal occasions, such as matriculation and high table dinners, whereas the College T-shirt is for relaxing occasions, such as orientation activities and communal dinners. We are going to share with you some stories about the College T-shirt.
The College T-shirt is actually designed by College alumna Chen Yanyao (Judy) who graduated from the Bachelor programme of Chinese Medicine in 2018. She used to be one of the organising members of the College’s orientation camp. When brainstorming the ideas for the College T-shirt, she put her College experiences on the design. On the front, a flock of birds dance around the Chinese characters of “S.H. Ho”. Judy hopes to include the elements of comfort, freedom and happiness, which are the impressions she receives at the College, on the T-shirt. The backside is a painting of the Chinese character of “Home” which refers to both the real home sculpture on the lawn and also the sense of belongings the College gives to the students. “Students may fly high above in the world. When they come to the College, they return to their home,” said Judy. The colours of the T-shirt are based on the College emblem. It is mainly designed in navy blue and the flying birds are painted in golden. The Chinese characters of “S.H. Ho” stand out in natural and unrestrained typeface.
“No matter it is about the design concept of the College T-shirt, or what the T-shirt means to anyone at the College, the message is clear. We can seek strength and begin our journey again at the College when we encounter any difficult in life.” With a deep affection to the College, Judy is now the secretary of the second cohort of executive members from S.H. Ho College Alumni Association, “Our College is a place to hold people together. We can open up our mind, get relaxed, meet friends and join activities here.” Although students will eventually go into the workplace and explore their future in different corners of the world, Judy still hopes that we can cherish every moment we have spent at home and show care to one another from time to time.
Last but not the least, Judy shares how we can wear the College T-shirt in a more fashionable way. “Girls may fold up the hem and boys may fold up the sleeves. In general, the characteristics of CUHK T-shirt is causal. The typical way to be causal is to attend a class with just a T-shirt, a short pant and a pair of sandals.” It is easy to clean the College T-shirt. Just put in a washing machine and then air-dry it. How about in a drying machine? “In that case, it would be better to use medium or low heat,” said Judy. College students may need to pay attention to this small tip.
