Self-discovery journey under cherry blossom

The pandemic has created many challenges for students who planned to study abroad. Despite all the obstacles, some CUHK students managed to take part in the long-awaited exchange. One of them is Zoe Cheung, a Year 3 Linguistics student who went to Japan.

Japan has been under the state of emergency for most of the time since the outbreak of the pandemic. When cross-border travel resumed last November, Zoe successfully obtained her student visa and embarked on a self-discovery journey which was her only chance for exchange. Not only did she make the washi (traditional Japanese paper) artwork in the art and education course with local students at Hiroshima University, she also attended the local church and recently commenced an internship at a democratic school. Looking back on the past few months, she was amazed by how she could take the challenges in her stride and prepared for the opportunity.
