Background

The Centre for Promoting Science Education (CPSE) is established by the Faculty of Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in October 2000. Breakthroughs in science and technology are built on the basis of a good and solid foundation in science education. Innovations and value-added industries call for a workforce knowledgeable in science and adept in technological know-how. The establishment is in answer to the policy address of the Honourable TUNG Chee Hwa, former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, for investments in human resources and innovation and technologies in Hong Kong with a view to becoming a leading competitor in the region of South East Asia.

 

Terms of Reference

The Centre shall serve as
1. a database source for research projects and activities on promoting science education by the Faculty of Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
2. a platform to provide the latest information on science and technology to the public.
3. a contact point for school teachers in science and technology.
4. a focal point in advocating education reform, especially in the propagation and advancement of science education.
