Welcome

In memory of the late Professor Lau Oi Wah, a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and our former Dean of Science, for her life-long devotion of promoting science education in the University and secondary schools, the Faculty has been hosting an annual Lau Oi Wah Memorial Science Lecture Series since 2005 to extend Professor Lau’s vision of science education.

First Talk

Natural Language Processing and Mathematics E-Learning

Dr. CHEUNG Leung Fu (Department of Mathematics)

The lecture probes the interrelationship among language and natural language processing. Mathematical language has many similarities to natural languages. We can parse mathematical texts with the help of ideas from linguistics and computer programs. Some of these ideas are useful in developing semi-automatic graders of math questions.

COVID-19’s Impacts on Our Air Quality

Prof. CHAN Man Nin (Earth System Science Programme)

The lecture explores the origins of different air pollutants and introduces the COVID-19’s impact on our air quality.
