The course will examine the theories of group dynamics and groupwork skills in working with different types of families. Focuses will be placed on how to use group as a mutual-aid system to facilitate the growth of children, parents and families; alleviate isolation; and achieve problem-solving insight. Attention will be given to the role of group worker and his/her purposeful use of group process and programmes to enable individuals and groups to develop effective knowledge and skills to address their own concerns in different contexts, i.e., parents’ groups, groups for children with behavioural or emotional disturbance, volunteer leadership training groups, skills in working with parent-teacher association, etc.
