2019 World Philanthropy Forum

With the theme of “Philanthropy in the Bay Area for Better Life”, the 2019 World Philanthropy Forum (WPF) was successfully held at Shenzhen Wuzhou Guest House on September 5 – 6, 2019.

The 2019 WPF was co-organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Tsinghua University (THU), The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). It aimed to foster the development of charity and social work worldwide and promote world peace and stability, as well as to unite more business and social science professionals and philanthropists, and to support social entrepreneurship which motivated participation from the general public. CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Associate Vice-President Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Prof. Steven Ngai and Prof. Joyce Ma participated in this meaningful event together.

On the second day of the Forum, Prof. Steven Ngai was invited to take part in a high-level roundtable discussion. He also delivered a presentation on “Nurturing of Philanthropy Leaders”. He shared with participants how CUHK has been contributing to cultivating NGO leaders (e.g., by organizing the OSC/UBS NGO Leadership Programme, Jockey Club MEL Institute Project and a Symposium on Social Work Education in Chinese Societies) and the future plans on nurturing philanthropy leaders. At the Closing Ceremony, he announced that Tsinghua University and CUHK will jointly organize a Master of Arts Programme in Social Service Management (Beijing). It is an endeavor that aims to produce social service leaders in mainland China.
