Benny Lim is currently the Professional Consultant and Director of the Master of Arts in Cultural Management (MACM) programme with the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He is affiliated (by invitation) to The Design School of Taylor’s University (Malaysia) as Visiting Professor and UniPegaso (Italy) as Adjunct Professor.
Benny has previously held faculty leadership roles in Berjaya University College and KDU University College in Malaysia. He was also a Visiting Scholar of Peking University’s Institute of Cultural Industries (2019-2020), Honorary Research Fellow of University of Nottingham’s (Malaysia) Asia Research Institute (2019), and Visiting Assistant Professor of Macau’s Institute of Tourism Studies (2015-2016). Benny has led curriculum development of new academic programmes in the field of creative industries in Italy, Macau, and Malaysia.
Benny began his journey as a theatre practitioner in 2001 and has since produced/ directed/ conceptualized over 70 works. He was also the director of Initiation International Festival (2005 – 2007), which gathered a group of artists annually to respond to a common theme through performances. Between 2014 and 2020, Benny curated an annual arts festival in Hong Kong focusing on issues surrounding subordinated and marginalized communities. He also served on the advisory committee of CUHK Shenzhen’s auditorium and concert hall development. He is currently the Board Chair of Along the Edge Limited, a non-profit arts organization in Hong Kong.
In recent years, Benny has received numerous invitations from universities and cultural institutions in Asia and Europe to share his professional insights as a cultural mediator and theatre practitioner.
