The National Humanities Center (NHC) Residential Fellowships provide opportunities for scholars to engage in advanced humanities. Participants may undertake the programme in North Carolina for either one term or one year. In addition to traditional fields in the humanities, the NHC Residential Fellowships welcome proposals from scholars working on projects that present interdisciplinary connections like bioethics, environmental humanities, history of science and technology, and film and media studies. Proposals fostering cutting edge research and advancing scholarship in the broader humanities may receive priority consideration.

Established in 1978 and located in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina, NHC is the world’s only independent institution exclusively dedicated to fostering advanced research in the Humanities. Over 1,400 scholars from nearly 40 nations have been in residence since its inception and they have produced over 1,600 books, many of which have won top awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the Bancroft Prize. Between 35 and 40 Fellows are chosen from some 600 applicants each year. Fellowships at NHC are considered among the most prestigious in the world.
