The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The University of Sydney (USYD) have identified each other as a strategic partner and the two universities have been working closely on different fronts of teaching and research. With a view to promoting global strategic partnership and inspiring new avenues of collaboration, the two universities will organize a series of webinars in 2021 and 2022 to bring researchers together, particularly the early-careers, to gain insights into making use of international opportunities to develop their global network and research work.
USYD is a leading research university consistently ranked as one of the top five universities in Australia. The University has strengths in a variety of disciplines. Its research is multi-disciplinary and focused on tackling the world’s greatest challenges. USYD was ranked second in the world and first in Australia by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings which measure how universities perform against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021).
CUHK-USYD SDGs Webinar Series – Partnering for Sustainability Challenges: Climate, Oceans, Cities & Communities, 18 August 2021
CUHK and USYD share strong commitment to addressing society’s greatest challenges and advancing the UN SDGs. To encourage constructive dialogues and collaborations in sustainable development, the two universities are jointly organizing a series of SDG-themed webinars, with the first one focusing on sustainability held on 18 August 2021. This webinar showcased two joint research projects in urban climate and health, and marine ecosystem which have relevance to SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13 Climate Action, and SDG 14 Life Below Water. A networking opportunity was provided for participants to mingle with the speakers and other attendees to exchange ideas and contacts, and potential funding opportunities to support CUHK-USYD collaborations were explored.

CUHK-USYD Partnership Showcase Webinar “Demystify the Secret of Successful International Collaboration”, 5 July 2021
With a view to promoting global strategic partnership and inspiring new avenues of international collaboration, CUHK and USYD jointly organized a public webinar titled “Demystify the Secret of Successful International Collaboration” on 5 July 2021 to showcase some of the most successful collaborations to date in advancing research on diabetes, information engineering, and integrative medicine. The event featured seven speakers from both universities who shared their valuable experiences in building and sustaining collaborations, as well as a panel discussion chaired by Prof. Mai-har Sham, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of CUHK, to shed light on the ways to grow academic network, attract resources, and overcome challenges to generate synergy for successful outcomes. The event welcomed 70 participants from 19 universities and organizations.
