Brunei Darussalam is a country with fascinating customs and a rich nature. Chuwei Zhang, a Year 3 Risk Management Science student just embarked on her exchange at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) shares her experience in Brunei.

The best way to delve into a new place and culture is by meeting the local people. Bruneians always carry a smiley face. They are very friendly and are willing to share Brunei’s stories with foreigners. Local dishes tend to be sweet and are served with various sauces. Mosques are significant in the Islamic culture and are a common sight in Brunei, and there is even one on UBD’s campus. ‘There is a big cultural difference between Brunei and Hong Kong. I had experienced culture shock when I arrived here. It certainly takes time to adjust and adapt to the local culture,’ said Chuwei.

The Office of Academic Links will soon invite applications for outgoing exchanges in 2022–23. Please stay tuned for our outreach events in October and encourage your students to grasp these life-changing opportunities.
