The vision of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (SKLA) is to safeguard food security by consolidating a world-class research team to develop knowledge and technology to tackle major agricultural tasks including yield enhancement, quality improvement, stress tolerance, and low-input sustainable agriculture.
The main scope of this State Key Laboratory is positioned primarily in basic science research. Applied basic science studies will be conducted on selected strategic areas of very strong basic science foundation. Key projects include: identification and functional studies of important genes contributing to crop yield, quality, stress tolerance and nitrogen metabolism; as well as optimizing platforms for crop transformation, seed bioreactors, and next generation genomic sequencing and bioinformatics.
We will serve the society by training high caliber technologists, generating new knowledge, and producing novel technology platforms and products. The SKLA will also build a hub in Asia to attract talents and establish a meeting place for researchers worldwide.
