1 Course description
The importance of an efficient and coordinated care is critical with the rising complexity of endoscopic procedures and the higher acuity of the patient population. This course is designed to build on the critical thinking skills of senior nurses in relation to their practice as a coordinator in the endoscopy unit, and to meet their educational requirements within the gastroenterology department. This enables the senior nurses to demonstrate a proficient level of competency, and the ability to respond appropriately and effectively to deal with situations within increasing complexity for providing a safe and high quality of health care service in the specialty areas of clinical gastroenterology.
2 Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to
1. Contextualise the importance of safety considerations within endoscopy in general and specifically within the various advanced endoscopic procedures
2. Critically analyse the principles and the practice of quality assurance on infection control and endoscope reprocessing
3. Make informed judgements regarding the appropriate actions to be taken to ensure safety within advanced endoscopy
4. Examine the endoscopic procedures and situations which require specific attention and management

1. Identification of safety issues in endoscopy
2. Quality assurance on infection control and endoscope reprocessing
3. Safe and effective practice in advanced endoscopic procedures: Advanced Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Advanced Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) examination of the gastrointestinal tract, Interventional Pulmonology, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) bronchoscopy and Endoscopic Navigation System
2. Quality assurance on infection control and endoscope reprocessing
3. Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) points would be offered (For Registered Nurses (General) and Enrolled Nurses (General)).
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued on written request to students who have an attendance of not less than 70% (Administration Fee of CUSCS for per copy would be $50).
